26/09/2024Un lugar muy tranquilo y muy bien decorado. Eramos los únicos comensales pero mereció la pena. Alí, nuestro camarero nos atendió genial toda la noche. La comida exquisita, muy bien elaborada y digna de tener una estrella Michelin. Tomamos el menú de 5 platos, mas que suficiente para cenar, y salimos muy satisfechos. Todos los platos sorprenden y Ali nos explicó cada plato según nos lo servía. El precio para ser Oporto quizá sea elevado, pero reconozco que merece la pena y se paga con gusto. Volvería sin ninguna duda. Como detalle de agradecer, el chef Argentino (no recuerdo su nombre) salió a saludarnos después de cenar. Todo un acierto. Enhorabuena al equipo y a seguir así.

29/11/2023Muy recomendable ir a comer un día a este restaurante de la Escuela de Hostelería y Turismo de Porto. Dos motivos por los que ir son: un servicio de sala profesional por parte de los alumnos y un menú muy interesante, con productos de calidad y muy bien preparados y presentados. Entre las dos opciones de menú con 5 y 7 platos, al ser una cena optamos por el menú de 5 platos, siendo un acierto.

27/08/2022Fuimos a cenar mi mujer y mis dos chamaquitos dispuestos a descubrir su gastronomía, el restaurante era de hambiente serio y nuestra intención era de cenar rapidito y probar 3 o 4 platos de la carta porque tenía buena pinta y porque somos amantes del buen comer. Al sentarnos en la mesa la jefa de sala nos anuncia que en ese momento están trabajando un menú degustación a ciegas (el tiempo del menú era sobre la hora y media) sinceramente en el momento nos parecio muchísimo tiempo, ella hizo una excepción y nos dijo que iba a hablar con el jefe de cocina para que nos preparase unos platos. Cenamos bien y también lamentamos no haber podido disfrutar de su propuesta. Doy gracias a la jefa de sala por su empatía y profesionalidad y al jefe de cocina por su buen hacer. Os deseo lo mejor.

26/03/2026Sicher ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis, das uns lange in Erinnerung bleiben wird. Wir hatten das 7 Gänge Menü, welches uns ausgezeichnet geschmeckt und auch ausreichend war. Die Atmosphäre war sehr besonders. Die Schüler sind sehr engagiert und haben die einzelnen Gänge mit ihrem Fachwissen sehr gut begleitet. Eine Situation am Nachbartisch mit schwierigen Gästen konnten sie souverän lösen. Klare Empfehlung!

01/01/2026Wij zijn op nieuwjaars avond komen eten.... We waren zeer goed ontvangen met een lekker drankje, terwijl we nog op andere mensen aant wachten waren. Ze kunnen u ontvangen in het Portugees uiteraard, maar ook Spaans en Engels. Het eten was zeer lekker van begin tot eind,en het personeel zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De jonge heer die de wijnen verkondigde deed dat zeer goed, en kon alle extra vragen omtrent goed beantwoorden. Prijs richting kan ik niet geven, wegens mijne lieve schoonvader ons uitgenodigd had. Ik vind goed personeel doet heel veel aan een zaak. 👍👍👍

O conceito do menu surpresa de 7 pratos revelou-se uma viagem única, em que cada prato trouxe não só sabores autênticos e criativos, mas também momentos especiais preparados com grande atenção aos detalhes. As porções foram perfeitamente equilibradas – generosas o suficiente para satisfazer e, ao mesmo tempo, sofisticadas na apresentação. Cada prato foi uma surpresa deliciosa, demonstrando a criatividade e a paixão da cozinha. A seleção de vinhos foi impecável, harmonizando de forma perfeita com cada etapa do menu. O serviço merece destaque absoluto: extremamente atencioso, cordial, rápido e ao mesmo tempo discreto e elegante. Sentimo-nos verdadeiramente bem cuidados, sempre com um sorriso e um toque de classe. O ambiente é muito acolhedor e elegante, criando a atmosfera ideal para um jantar especial. Também ficámos muito satisfeitos com o ritmo do serviço – sem longas esperas entre os pratos, o que contribuiu para a fluidez da experiência. Terminámos a noite no bar do hotel, que nos ofereceu o cenário perfeito para prolongar a experiência com toda a calma e conforto. Foi o encerramento ideal para um jantar que ficará gravado na memória. Em resumo: uma combinação maravilhosa de conceito, qualidade e hospitalidade. Excelente relação qualidade-preço, pratos de altíssima qualidade, um serviço irrepreensível e um ambiente encantador. 10/05/2025I'm not sure where to start with this review. My wife said it might be the worst meal she had ever had and that is really saying something because I had my mother-in-law's cooking and it left a lot to be desired. It was as if there was somebody in the kitchen who had never cooked anything and they were told to just take whatever ingredients they could find and arrange them in ways that looked fancy to them. The staff were really nice and I felt bad for them because they were trying but they were getting no help from the kitchen who sent them out with plates a foul mush. That was an hour and a half of my life that I will not get back unless of course it comes out tonight before I go to sleep.

Minha experiência foi maravilhosa, o atendimento impecável, todos que nos atenderam foram simpáticos e atenciosos. Nossas escolhas de entrada, prato principal e sobremesa estavam fantásticas, especialmente o brownie com gelado: textura perfeita, quentinho e combinando com o gelado servido por cima.

04/11/2024Ein tolles Konzept, Auszubildende der Hotel und Gastroschule kochen und bedienen den Gast, nur der Sommelier war ein "Profi". Das Essen war sehr gut und man sieht das es tollen Nachwuchs gibt. Die 4* für den Service sind keine Kritik, sie sind noch in der Ausbildung, da kommt auch Mal das falsche Wasser. Alles in allem ein toller Abend und Preis-Leistung ist top, wir hatten das 7 Gänge Menü, 60€, 5 gibt es für 40€. Am Ende waren es 9 Gänge und auch die Weinempfehlung war sehr professionell. Ein paar Worte Englisch sollte man aber können, am Nachbartisch saßen Franzosen, das Team war trotzdem sehr bemüht und es hat trotzdem funktioniert. Klare Empfehlung

23/10/2024Unluckily the food type, processing of it and preparations were very basic. For the price paid it is not acceptable to do not have a certain level of preparation. I do not say sofistication, but preparation. Everything I ate I could have prepared easily at home. The sirloin was too much cooked and cold and the knife was not the correct one to cut it...especially considering it was very hard. Wine pairing was absolutely out of price for its value. I Paid 60€ for the 7 course menu and 60€ for wine pairing of 6 glass of very standard wines. There are better way and restaurants, in Porto, where to spend 123€... Location was very very nice and staff was super friendly. Despite this, I would not recommend it.

18/07/2024그냥 포르투에서 적당한 파인다이닝을 찾는거라면 그냥 5접시 메뉴로 맛만 보고 가세요. 기존 파인 다이닝 상식과 달리 양많고 맛퀄리티는 애매한 식당이라... 7접시까지는 추천 안드립니다 한국에 중저가 파인다이닝이랑 비교하면 많이 아쉽고, 포르투칼 특색은 마지막 디저트 말고는 잘 모르겠어요... 특히나 생선가스에 김치마요는 정말 튀김도 별로고 소스도 한국인임에도 별로였습니다

07/07/2024We had a superb evening, the food was delicious with excellent wines to try before you buy. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu. Each and every course was fantastic! These guys are students of this culinary school and I can see why the school is rated 5*. Yes, we were the only people in the restaurant, but unlike some of the other reviews, I have no problem having a wonderful evening chatting with my loved one without the 'atmosphere' of other noisy customers. The waiters made us feel very special and each course was a surprise and a delight. Well done to all the team.

The seven-course sensory menu was not only a visual delight but also a culinary masterpiece, each dish bursting with flavor and creativity. The sommelier was knowledgeable and interesting, explaining the origin, grapes, and history of each wine, and pairing them perfectly with the courses. I could tell hospitality was in his blood and he loved to serve and see people enjoy their experience. The quality of the dining experience, combined with the exceptional value, made it an unforgettable event. I highly recommend A Escola by the Artist for anyone seeking a wondetful dining experience.

14/05/2024A Escola by The Artist zag er veelbelovend uit als laatste avond dus hebben we hier gereserveerd, wat precies niet echt nodig was. Bij aankomst werden we zeer vriendelijk ontvangen en kwamen we terecht in mooi aangeklede ruimte vol kunstwerken van oud-studenten – het hotel/restaurant is gevestigd in een oude kunstschool. Helaas was bij aankomst (20:00) niemand anders aanwezig en dit op een vrijdagavond !! Terwijl alle restaurants in Porto vol zitten was het hier leeg. Het was een beetje onwennig een bevreemdend gevoel om als enige in zo een grote ruimte te zitten en waar het personeel niets te doen heeft buiten naar jou te kijken. In plaats van de ruimte te verlaten bleven ze gewoon wachten. Het opzet was dat er menu’s zijn, eentje van 5 gangen en eentje van 7 gangen, wij hadden de 5-gangen gekozen. Alhoewel het personeel heel vriendelijk en lief was ontbrak de gehele avond een sfeer van gezelligheid. Ook het menu zelf, op zich allemaal prima gedresseerd en mooi gepresenteerd maar bij elk gerecht dacht je, hier kon meer mee gedaan worden – allemaal net niet, jammer. Wel heel attent was dat op het eind dat we een presentje kregen omdat deze reis een huwelijksverjaardag was, leuk gedaan en zeer lief. Prijs is gemiddeld maar de sfeer en gezelligheid, die is er helaas nooit geweest.

05/03/2024I visited this restaurant for lunch to celebrate Valentine's Day. The service was good, with attentive staff making sure we were well taken care of. However, the food was just average, nothing particularly memorable. One significant downside was the time it took for the food to arrive. We only had a one-hour lunch break, and the wait cut into our limited time, making the experience a bit rushed and stressful.

11/01/2024Non existent flavour and subpar service. We spent New Year’s Eve at A Escola By The Artist and were bitterly disappointed. Firstly, the service staff weren’t knowledgable, they didn’t explain any of the dishes to us, instead one waiter said to us ‘didn’t you get the menu emailed to you?’ They also messed up when they paired red wine with a fish dish (contrary to the menu, meaning they obviously got confused but didn’t offer an apology nor acknowledge their mistake). The food itself was tasteless, it seemed the chefs were more interested in presentation rather than complexity in taste, one dish genuinely was cod with some potato mash (that had been dyed blue). The only dish that was okay was the first course, which were cooked oysters. The pacing between courses was around 30 minutes per course which was ridiculous given the small portions, it just meant a lot of the tables were waiting around for the next course. I wouldn’t go back here nor would I recommend anyone pays €150 for a 7 course fine dining experience (with wine pairings) here. You’re much better elsewhere.

02/01/2024The ambiance of the place was fine. The service was definitely slacking for most of the 3 hour dinner service which in of itself is way too long for a 7 course dinner. The waiters never cleaned the table in between courses, or switched the silverware. The food was laughably bad. We had the seven course tasting menu, which was bad from beginning to end. The amuche buche of beet hummus in a cone was okay nothing special. After waiting for 30 minutes our fish escapche arrived, it was horrendous. Then came the mushroom dish which was fine. After we had chilli, chilli at a tasting menu. Then came the salmon with teriyaki which was basically bottled sauce. The desserts were the lowest point of the meal, the marble cake was dry and semi frozen, and the pannacota had the texture of a bar of soap. All of this took a whopping 3 hours. I'm sorry but this place is a total scam don't eat here

Les portes ont été fermées à notre demande.Pour le plat le cuisinier doit être amoureux car je n’ai jamais pu finir le poisson, du Bar, à cause du sel. Bonne crème brûlée pour le dessert.

26/08/2023Wir waren am Donnertag Abend Gäste im Escola Boy the Artist. Wir bestellten das 7-Gänge Menü und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Es gibt hier keine Speisekarte und man lässt sich auf ein kleines Abenteuer ein, welche Speisen denn serviert werden. Auch der Preis für das Menü mit 60 Euro ist sehr günstig. Getränke nicht inklusive. Alles in allem ein gelungener Abend. Wiederholungsfaktor: sehr hoch.

19/08/2023The service and waitress was good. She was very polite and nice. The atmosphere at a funeral would have been better. No buzz.. nobody in the building except 3 staff which felt really weird. It was like being in a library or museum with nothing in the place. It was even hard to find the toilet until the waitress offered to walk me to it which was strange. I refused her kind offer and then when I did go a man appeared in the lobby to show me the door which was not sign posted. Back to the food.. it tries to be cool.. but it ain't. The food is tiny. The main of steak was overcooked and had zero seasoning. The dessert was good in fairness. For 60 quid a head it lacked value.. wow factor or any sense of wanting to return. If you like pretentious meals then you will fit right in. The food looks super pretty though..

25/07/2023Alarm bells rang when the amuse bouche was humus with pineapple jam and rock hard pastry! Terrible food and listless service. No creativity at all in the dishes just served very small and “pretty” looking. No flavours other than pepper and vinegar. No sauce or jus apart from a “ balsamic reduction” I though this came out if the bottle already reduced? Dull vegetables were served puréed, raw, in vinegar or with a cold soft “ tempura” and chewy belly pork served atop a horrible gloopy mess- Gnocchi?Porridge? Mackerel was served with strips of pepper in vinegar, cod served with dirty tasting red stuff. The pudding was pleasant but what was described as sponge was hard. Finally, I asked for water twice but gave up. It was on the bill though even when the waiter made it quite clear that he knew it wasn’t served. The whole evening somehow summed up by a couple next to me who were rowing! Pretentious, tasteless and absolutely awful

The two servers tried their best, but a dirty wineglass, overcooked food and expensive wine left us unimpressed and with a bill that was far too high. Very disappointing, we're not going back nor recommending to others. Shame for the trainees.

29/06/2023Sophisticated setting, friendly staff almost too eager to please, average food and a high bill with wine and extra costs. We had the standard 14.50 euro lunch menu. Wine by the glass or bottle was expensive, and we chose one of the cheaper bottles of white at 30 euros. Our waiter apologised that it was warm and he would chill it further. When it arrived we were well into our main courses. He opened the bottle but it was still warm and we sent it back for an alternative, a shame as it would have saved the bottle and been quicker and easier to offer something else at the start. Food was OK but not spectacular or memorable and rather bland. The bill for two came to 70 euros with 3 euros for a bottle of water, and I noticed later a mysterious extra 8 euros added on for two 'menu a comidas' - a cover charge? Nothing quite came together, a dirty wineglass, a bone in the fish fillets.. and it was generally disappointing. I know it is a training college but better supervision of the staff would have helped all round, for them and for us.

31/05/2023We ended up down the block from our apartment at the hospitality hotel school with a restaurant called Escola by the Artist. Here hospitality students are training for their career. We were asked for our patience as the students could be nervous serving real guests for the first time. We chose the five course meal, €40 each and added on some white wines that ran from six euros to €13 a glass. We chose a random bread from a basket and were given two slices each. Unfortunately, the olive oil did not arrive until we have finished the bread and we were not offered any more bread, although the bread plates remained on the table throughout. 🥖! We admired the slender utensils and received tiny little square plates on our placemats. We didn’t know what to do with them until the waiter placed our used utensils on them after our first course bowls were taken away. Many tables were set up for large groups but unfortunately we and a table of two French ladies were the only ones dining the whole time we were there. We left at 9:45 PM, not sure if those tables ever got filled. Hopefully so because they did turn away a couple who tried to dine in without a reservation. The portuguese waitress who was serving us spoke both English and French, so she was explaining everything in our corresponding languages. The first was an amuse Bouche of hummus in a tomato cone. The five tastes included: A warm vegetable mix that is usually done with Portuguese bacalao, cod, but this was the vegetarian version topped with potato string chips and a balsamic reduction. Soft cooked mackerel over a bed of bell peppers and onions, Portuguese style. Quail over a broad bean mix with muscadet wine reduction. Seabass over a bed of beet quinoa that Matthew said looks like ground beef. With bok choy and soy sauce reduction. They do love their reductions! Panna cotta with a caramel and Matcha sauce and crispy sesame sponge cake. With this, we shared a glass of port wine. All of the food was beautifully presented, it just lacked that flavor and wow factor in taste. In this country, like many European countries, you have to specifically asked for the check or you might be sitting around until it’s time to wash the dishes. After paying with credit card, we were asked to fill out the survey at the end. The bathroom is located past the reception desk on the right. This restaurant is in a very hip and stylishly decorated hotel. Everything is pretty quiet. Not sure if it’s because it was a Wednesday night or if it’s quiet in general.

08/04/2023Die 'Escola' ist die Schule für Gastronomie und Tourismus. Entsprechend wird man hier vom Nachwuchs bedient und bekocht, unter den Augen der Ausbilder. Es gibt nur das 5Gang und das 7Gang Menü zur Auswahl. Was man auf den Teller bekommt ist mehr oder weniger geheim. Oder man schaut auf die Webseite. Man kann zwischen Fisch und Fleisch wählen, bekommt aber Laufe des Abends letztendlich auch beides auf den Teller. Wir vergeben vier von fünf Sternen. Das Essen schmeckte prima und war sehr professionell angerichtet. Die Prozedur hat aber wohl so lange gedauert, dass das meiste den Tisch nur so gerade eben lauwarm erreichte. Insgesamt sollte man selbst bei kleinen Portionen bei einem Gesamtpreis von 120 Euro für 2 incl. Wein den Laden auch einigermaßen gesättigt verlassen. Das hat bei uns nur so gerade eben geklappt. Die Schüler (an unserem Abend allesamt männlich, aber vielleicht standen die Frauen dafür in der Küche) bemühten sich nach Kräften, den Gästen einen schönen Abend zu bereiten. Es wurde formvollendet eingedeckt, nachgeschenkt und beraten. Auch auf Englisch klappte das ganz ordentlich. Auf jeden Fall eines der interessantesten Restaurants auf unserer Reise.

14/11/2022Muito ruim. Não tinha carta de vinhos e os vinhos oferecidos muito ruins em se tratando da região. Já a Comida foi uma decepção a cada prato, quando chegou o principal um foi bacalhau e outro bochecha de porco, desistimos. Não quisemos nem esperar a sobremesa. Não vale o preço E um sistema de momentos que o chefe define o prato, porém nada nos agradou. Uma pena foi pois foi bem indicado por um amigo.

26/09/2022This hospitality school is amazing. We went to the restaurant during a weekday when we had the executive menu. For €15.50 we had our pick of a starter, a main, a dessert and coffee. We paid additional for the water and wine. The food was gourmet and quite good. The appetizer from the chef, a pea hummus in a crunchy cone, was outstanding. The vegetable soup and the salmon tartar was acceptable. The couscous salad and the pork mains were outstanding. We loved the lemon pie. For the food quality this restaurant is a bargain. The venue is beautiful with outstanding artwork. The lunch special is a great value.

02/07/2022This is a hidden gem. The chef cooks either a 5 or 7 course meal according to the ingredients he has available and, most importantly, his inspiration. You, as guests, will not know what will be served. I had 5 very good surprises, very well paired with Portuguese wines. Service was consistently professional. In summary, this restaurant has a professional chef in the kitchen and skilled students doing the rest of the work. Tonight was served by Filipa and Francisca. In the kitchen, the chef Hugo Dias and his assistant Joao Manuel. I certainly recommend this place.

I was planning to just drink wine but was excited to learn they could accommodate dairy-free and went ahead ordering the tasting menu. I was served a dish with milk and had a bite before they rushed out and took it away. Rather than preparing a fresh plate, the took the item with milk off the plate and tried to re-serve the same cross contaminated plate. Totally unacceptable for such an expensive (read: wildly overpriced) restaurant. Overly aggressive apologies from the owner and nothing was removed from the bill. Avoid!

Comida é excelente, atendimento idem, o espaço é bastante agradável, a apontar só a demora excessiva entre pratos.. Penso que é algo a melhorar. Recomendo vivamente. Data da visita: dezembro de 2019
