14/06/2026It was too hot and humid inside —I expected some temperature and humidity control to preserve the art. That being said, there's some very cool stuff on display and the place itself is impressive. We went from painting to painting, making up stories for each portrait subject, it was great fun.

06/06/2026The rudest worker ever. Yes, I messed up scanning the ticket and accidentally pushed the turnstile so he had to use the buzzer to admit one person (which took him like 2 seconds) but the over-reaction of the guard was absolutely crazy. Yes, the palace was beautiful.

26/05/2026The Galleria Doria Pamphilj is a grand private art gallery located in the palazzo of the same name on Via del Corso. More than just a museum, it is the largest private palace in Rome, still owned by a noble aristocratic family. While you'd be surrounded by dense streams of tourists at the Vatican or the Villa Borghese, here you can admire world-class masterpieces in the relatively tranquil, luxurious atmosphere of an authentic princely palace. The palace's main visual delight is the magnificent four-sided gallery surrounding the courtyard. Its central section, the Gallery of Mirrors (Galleria degli Specchi), designed by the architect Gabriele Valvassori, amazes with an abundance of gold, crystal chandeliers, enormous Venetian mirrors, and ceiling frescoes. It is so dazzling that it is often called the "Roman Versailles." The gallery owns one of the most valuable paintings in the history of world art—the "Portrait of Pope Innocent X" (who was a member of the Pamphili family) by Diego Velázquez. A separate small room has been set aside for this masterpiece. The realism, insight, and stern, piercing gaze of the pontiff compel one to stand for long periods before this canvas. The Pope himself, upon seeing the work, famously uttered: "Too true!" (Troppo vero!). The palace collection is incredibly rich. Three important works by Caravaggio hang here: "The Penitent Mary Magdalene," "The Rest on the Flight into Egypt" (a remarkably poetic painting with an angel playing the violin), and "John the Baptist." Adjacent to the painting are masterpieces by Raphael, Titian, Parmigianino, Brueghel the Elder, and monumental sculptures by Bernini and Algardi. The paintings here are still hung in the 18th-century style—in dense rows from floor to ceiling (called a tapestry or continuous hanging), according to an ancient inventory document from 1767. This makes you feel not like you're in a sterile modern museum, but like you're visiting a collector from the Age of Enlightenment. A fantastic audio guide is included in the ticket price. The best part is that it's narrated by Jonathan Pamphili, a direct descendant of the princely family. He describes the paintings and the halls not like a dry tour guide, but as someone who played hide-and-seek here as a child and ran through these corridors. This adds an incredibly personal touch to the visit. The ideal time to photograph in the Mirror Gallery is first half of the day, when sunlight floods the courtyard and softly filters through the huge windows, creating a stunning interplay of reflections on the gold and mirrors. The elongated perspective here makes for stunning symmetrical shots.

Two of the three caravaggios are early works that hint at what was to come but are quite ‘flat’. The Babtist is somehow not quite up to the version in the Capitole. And then, just when you think ‘oh hum’ you find pope Innocent X. And you realize what a masterpiece is really about. But such astonishing work of human capability is totally undersold by its ludicrous blue and gold ‘room’

17/05/2026Do not miss this! A wonderful place, rich in art and elegance. Inside you will find paintings by the most famous Italian and European painters such as Caravaggio, Tiziano and Lotto, statues by Bernini and a lot of family history. The audioguide is well done and it was appreciated that it was narrated by a member of the family, a very nice and personal touch. Time for visiting if you want to be thorough is more than 2hrs, and they are totally worth it.

17/05/2026A beautiful palace that worth a visit. No waiting, just buy your ticket and enter through a small charming garden with a fountain and lemon trees. Impressive architecture and decorations. The real finding is the amazing paintings and sculptures collection, including works by Varese, Caravaggio, Bruegel, even Velazquez. The lighting can be better though. A free audio guide is included.

02/05/2026A hidden gem of an art gallery and about a 10-15min walk away from Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. Unlike the more famous galleries in Rome, this one had no crowds or lineups, so I spent 3 very happy hours here roaming around in peace and marvelling at the art work and architecture and interior design sculptures in this former private home/palazzo. There are ancient Roman sculptures to early medieval religious art to Caravaggio paintings and Bernini sculptures and early 20th century art! And the audioguide that came with the ticket was most detailed and excellent and narrated by a present-day member of the Pamphilj family. Highly recommend visiting this place!

02/05/2026The palace and the operas itself are astonishing, but unfortunately the way they are exhibited, maintained and enlightened is improbably shameful, really bad! It all appears tacky and not worth the visit. There are much better Roman Palaces to visit!

29/04/2026Great museum. It doesn’t feel very big because it’s only a couple rooms but the sheer volume of art that is placed on the walls probably rivals the amount of art you see at larger museums. I bought online skip the line tickets and there was no line to skip so if you’re not going in a busy time, don’t bother with that. I would definitely still buy tickets online. Great museum, great history, loved the free audio tour.

Но самый главный бонус — здесь практически нет людей! Никаких толп, очередей и суеты. Гуляешь по этому великолепному дворцу почти в полном одиночестве и наслаждаешься искусством. 10 из 10!

Tuttavia non metto 5 stelle perché è davvero troppo piena: ci sono talmente tanti quadri di artisti famosi (Tiziano, Raffaello, ecc.) così appiccicati tra loro che non si riesce a distinguerli e a goderseli. L'attrazione principale però sono alcune famose tele del Caravaggio, in una galleria a parte e ben segnalata.

02/06/2026Sehr große Gallerie, fairer Eintritt und Weltklasse audioguide. English/Italienisch/Französisch/ und noch ein Sprache die ich vergessen habe . Für mich war Englisch relevant und meines Erachtens sehr gut vertont . Der Eigentümer der Sammlung führt durch den Rundgang wärend zwei Sprecher viele Dinge zu den Objekten erklären. Es ist überraschend wieviel Kunst sich hier stapelt und wie gut das ganze gemacht ist für eine Privatsammlung. Die Security ist freundlich und wird nicht komplett nervös wenn man Mal an ein Bild herantritt um es genauer zu betrachten, Wichtig wie überall: "Man schaut mit dem Augen nicht mit den Händen!" Alles in allem mega gut. Achja Toiletten gibt's auch.

21/04/2026Galleria Doria Pamphilj se nedá nazvat jinak než neobjevený skrytý poklad v srdci Říma. Je až s podivem jak málo návštěvníků v ní bylo. Po hlavní ulici proudí tisíce návštěvníků a málo kdo z nich ví vedle jakého skvostu se nacházejí. Caravaggio a to celkem třikrát! Raffael, Lorrain či Velazquez.

De plus on peut vraiment profiter de la visite car il n'y a pas grand monde. Je recommande fortement cette visite, l'un des meilleurs moment de notre séjour.

13/04/2026Immaginavo che la Galleria Doria Pamphilj fosse qualcosa di meraviglioso ma non così grande nella bellezza delle opere d'arte e sculture in essa raccolte. La sala degli specchi ti lascia senza parole quasi ti abbaglia la vista. Se capita di andare a Via del Corso tra uno shopping 🛒🛍️ e l'altro consiglio vivamente di entrare e vedere quella Galleria.
