11/06/2026I had a wonderful experience at La Casa del Abuelo. I ordered the shrimp al ajillo, and it was absolutely delicious—full of flavor and cooked perfectly. I also enjoyed a sangria, which was refreshing and complemented the meal well. I chose to sit outside in the evening, and it was the perfect spot for people-watching while enjoying a relaxing dinner as a solo traveler. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The only issue I encountered was that my waiter tried to touch my hair. I assume it may have been out of curiosity, as he may not have been familiar with African American hair, but it made me a bit uncomfortable. Aside from that interaction, the food, drinks, and overall experience were very good. I would definitely return for the shrimp al ajillo and the outdoor dining experience.

11/06/2026The garlic shrimp was too soft and overcooked in my opinion. If the shrimp was not overcooked, it would be a perfect dish, the garlic in oil was super fragrant. We also got the recommended grilled prawns, very sweet and fresh. Price was high for the quantity of food compared to some of the other places.

10/06/2026Don’t stress about the negative reviews, I’m as tourista as they come and the food was amazing and the service was too! The garlic shrimp is incredible and Ice cold beer! We had a wonderful time experience and would come back in a heartbeat. A must stop in Madrid! Cheers from San Diego! ❤️

08/06/2026Not too impressed with this institution. Beware of a loud waiter named Luis. He brought out stuff that we did not order and - I believe- overcharged us for all of it. While the drinks were good, the tapas left a lot to be desired. I would avoid this place and go for a lesser known tapas place with better food and a more ethical waiter.

24/05/2026The waiter Alfredo (if that’s his actual name) brought us 3 foods instead of the 2 we ordered, when he sat the plate down I asked him, “what is this for?” He said the two come together, and then at the end he gave us the check, and there it was, included as a separate dish, he crashed out and said if we don’t want to pay we didn’t have to lie about it, I ended up paying the full price because I was on a date, but by no means, DO NOT EAT THERE, small portions and the old waiter has too much attitude.

24/05/2026Message for all tourists: I would avoid the garlic shrimps (Gambas al Ajillo). First of all, it is €20 for the small dish. Secondly, the texture and cleanliness of the shrimps are horrible, mushy texture and the most of the shrimps still have their digestive tract intact, which may be the cause of all the grittiness when chewing the shrimps. The flavour was not the best either, small amount of garlic flavour and not enough salt.

23/05/2026The food was really expensive for "the benefit of the taste", which for one of the meals wasn't even the case. The waiter didn't even ask the portion size, he just assumed I that the biggest would be the desired option, and, of course, it wasn't. The location is very crowded and the serving is on a fast forward pace, that won't even allow the time to choose the right food. Honestly, it felt like a tourist trap when I visited it, I don't know if this is the case on every occasion, but anyway it was a disappointing experience.

The signature dish had salad size and broken shrimp pieces that weren’t cooked to order. The bread was not fresh and the vermut was so so. Over-rated, overcooked, and overpriced. Go elsewhere.

The food arrived cold, we sent it back twice , and it came back cold twice The Gambas dish we ordered was also cold .When we complained, they refused to do anything about it, and I had to insist that it be removed from the bill. The manager was not polite at all, did not apologize, and even told us not to come back. It was very disappointing because we were really looking forward to trying their calamari sandwich and Gambas . In the end, we only had fries and the tinto de verano. Upon checking my bill i found that they had charged me for the Gambas al ajilho regardless..Would not recommend this restaurant and I will never go back.

11/05/2026Traveling with a 10-year-old, we didn't feel comfortable squeezing into the cramped, standing-only environment of the original La Casa del Abuelo on Calle de la Victoria, so we reserved a table online at their Calle de Toledo location instead. We ordered a broad selection from the menu, including their apparently signature ‘El Abuelo’ sweet wine, Sangria, Vermouth, Manchego cheese, the Spanish omelette, and garlic shrimp with bread. The Vermouth was beautifully aromatic with a distinct hint of cinnamon, while the sizzling garlic shrimp stood out as the best dish of our evening. On the other hand, the Spanish omelette was quite bland — a disappointment that we couldn't even finish half of.

09/05/2026Everyone says that when you go to Europe that you aren't rushed from the restaurant. Apparently that's not true for Casa del Abuelo. We were at this location tonight for less than 90 minutes when we were told to "Bye Bye" to give up our table for another group. We spent 170 Euros so it's not like they didn't make money off of us. We were also served expensive food (Iberian ham) we didn't order and were of course charged for it. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else while in Madrid.

09/05/2026Garlic shrimp taste great and service (until payment) is good but they rip off tourists. Menu said "doble" (double) for the garlic shrimp. I asked for a single. I confirmed it was a single as they walked away. When they brought the food I asked if it was a single and they said it was a single. When I went to pay, they said it was a "grande" (large). Then they went to great lengths to show me the size difference of the plates, which are only distinguishable in size when looked at side by side. They told me next time to order a small. I was obviously a tourist and they went to great lengths to force me into ordering more. Food was good. Ripping off tourists is terrible.

05/05/2026Waiter was also like a friendly entertainer. Gambas al ajillo were absolutely delicious. Fresh and tender. The bread was perfect for dipping in the butter. I had to leave early because I got butter on my new westwood shirt but I would have loved to stay and try more. The shrimp and bread was a meal itself but not when you’ve only eaten one churro all day. It also seems to be one if the few old Spanish style tavernas that’s open before traditional Spanish eating times. It’s frequented by locals and people here were friendly. I will definitely be back 💖

07/04/2026Another popular tapas place that opened a sister restaurant directly across from the original. We thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp garlic dish and continued to crave it throughout our stay. They definitely perfected the recipe and we couldn’t find another place that came close to how good theirs was. Note that the sister location across serves the exact same food and is made exactly from the original restaurant so if there’s no space in the original location, just walk across and you’ll get actual seating. Definitely worth a try!

After about a minute, suddenly I had the most expencive food from their menu on my table. They said this is a place for food and drink, if jou want to drink wine go inside standing up and you can not sit outside... I just paid for the wine, of what I just had only a taste and left. Greedy scammers, even thou the food is probably pretty good, but still...

09/06/2026Volví después de unos años pensando que tendrían la misma calidad y el mismo servicio y me equivoqué por completo. Pido unas croquetas de gambas al ajillo, un pincho de tortilla y unos callos. Lo primero que me traen las croquetas, las pruebo yo a la vez que mi pareja y los dos pensamos lo mismo, ácidas, saladas y con un sabor a ajo muy tostado o rebozado muy tostado. Le pido a la camarera que se las lleve que no estaban bien, y al ver en varias mesas el aspecto de otros platos, entre ellos una paella que no tenía muy buena pinta, y que no habían comido ni la mitad entre tres comensales, decido anular el pedido y pedir la cuenta, puesto que si lo que probé y vi era así, no quería probar lo demás. A todo esto se llevan las croquetas a cocina y la única contestación que recibo por parte de la camarera que se marcho con las croquetas es que en cocina dicen que acidas no están, que saladas si pero ácidas no, esto lo escucho a distancia ya que no me vienen a explicar el problema a la mesa, si no que me entero yo de esa manera. Le contesto de la misma manera a ella, a distancia, de unos dos o tres metros, que no es así como dice, que aparte de estar saladas también están ácidas y medio con un sabor tostado no muy agradable. Ellas se excusan en lo suyo diciéndome que les estoy faltando al respeto, cuando le estoy contestando sin alzar la voz y de la misma manera que ellas, a distancia, y dicen que ningún cliente se ha quejado nada más que yo. Con todos mis respetos pero habían varias mesas de clientes de los cuales solo nosotros éramos españoles y además conocedores de la gastronomía de aquí, y he probado muchas croquetas y de muchos tipos y se diferenciar entre si son buenas o si son comestibles y estás no lo eran, y repito que a lo mejor por ello he sido el único en decir que no estaban en condiciones. Además si ellas mismas me dicen que saladas si, por qué las sirves?. La mesa de al lado antes de todo ellos también reciben varios platos de croquetas y les escuchamos comentar algo sobre ellas. Cada uno tiene su opinión y decide si quejarse o no, en mi caso decidí no comer algo que me podría haber causado, quizas, pasar un mal rato. En ningún momento falte al respeto. A veces hay que recibir criticas para mejorar o para solucionar un error que todos podemos cometer y no despreciar de alguna manera la opinión de un cliente. A veces doy otras oportunidades y vuelvo a sitios donde no quedé muy satisfecho, pero solo por el trato recibido y por intentar dejarme como un mentiroso delante de los demás, no volveré. Espero que sirva de referencia para otros futuros clientes.

Ahora, es agradable, pero es puro negocio para turista, para sacarles la pasta. Que decepción. Una caña doble 3,40€ y no te ponen ni unas miseras patatas fritas o aceitunas. Lamentable. Está claro que no vuelvo. Las raciones entre 15 y 25€ o más

08/06/2026Fomos conhecer por ser um lugar tradicional com mais de 100 anos, porém todas as mesas estavam ocupadas do lado de fora e fomos direcionados para outro endereço que não era tão legal. A garçonete completamente sem vontade, nem colocou facas em nossa mesa e quando chamávamos para pedir algo, ela ignorava. O camarão tradicional estava muito bom, a paella estava bem apimentada e deixou um pouco a desejar pois não tinha tantos frutos do mar. A sangria estava gostosa mas a carne de porco e a tortilha estavam meio cruas. Fiquei desapontada.

Pero el servicio, ya van dos veces que intentan hacerse los listos con lo que uno pide. Aunque se resuelve, es mejor si tienen dudas que pregunten. Si van recomiendo entrar directamente y no sentarse en las mesas de afuera.

04/06/2026Un posto super consigliato nei social ma a parere nostro sconsigliato. Lo staff poco simpatico, solo nel momento in cui ci ha fatto accomodare al tavolo. Sono lì per attirare più turisti possibili, per intenderci un ensalada de tomate a € 10 che si tratta di un solo pomodoro, e in altri posti in tutta Madrid si trova ad un modico prezzo e così per tutti i piatti. Detto questo, ci sediamo e decidiamo di ordinare solo qualcosa da bere, non ci viene anticipato nulla quando ci accomodiamo al tavolo, in modo del tutto sgarbato successivamente ci viene detto che se avevamo solo intenzione di bere potevamo stare 15 minuti. Al termine di questi minuti paghiamo, ci viene dato il conto, esprimiamo la preferenza nel pagare con la carta e letteralmente il camieriere ha sbuffato. A Madrid c’è molto meglio. La gentilezza dovrebbe essere al primo posto.

29/05/2026O camarão ao alho é realmente o grande destaque da casa. Muito saboroso. O atendimento é simpático mas um pouco confuso. Como o lugar está sempre cheio as vezes demora um pouco para vc ser atendido. Apesar deste problema vale conhecer este local tradicional de Madri.

26/05/2026Típico local madrileño en el que la experiencia es más que beber o comer. Tienen muy buenas gambas al ajillo y torreznos espectaculares. El vino de Toro de la casa está muy bueno, sorprende. Y el camarero cantador es el alma de la fiesta. Vale la pena visitarlo.

El equipo de sala fue súper amable en todo momento y el ambiente nos pareció muy guay: buena música, mezcla de gente local y turistas, y ese toque castizo que el lugar mantiene después de tantos años. La zona es movida, pero forma parte del encanto. Es un sitio con historia que sigue funcionando muy bien. Volveremos sin duda.

16/05/2026Fuimos a comer 3 noches seguidas porque nos encantó el ambiente. Se destacan por las gambas al ajillo y su ambiente tradicional. Fuimos atendidos por el Sr José francisco ( perdón si el alcohol me hace cometer errores) quien siempre me asesoró sobre los tamaños de las porciones que iba a pedir. La ultima noche incluso me regaló desinteresadamente un vino de la casa para llevarme a mi casa. Gracias al restaurante y a José!

04/05/2026Un clásico que mantiene su esencia. Las gambas al ajillo están a otro nivel, servidas en su cazuela de barro borboteando y con el punto justo de picante. Es el lugar perfecto para tomarse un chato de vino y disfrutar del tapeo castizo de verdad.

01/05/2026名副其实名过其实，絕對不推介！ 食材質素非常差，蝦肉口感差、完全不新鮮。 服務員態度惡劣，仲有明顯歧視亞洲人嘅感覺，全程不禮貌。 不斷遊說、強行暗示我哋再加點更多食物。自帶了樽裝水放了在枱上，服務員竟然話唔可以放枱上，要擺落地下，態度傲慢無禮，令人非常無語同難受。 想睇消費單據，帳單已經被即刻收走，體驗極差，性價比低、服務差、態度歧視，絕對不會再來，亦都呼籲大家避雷！

01/05/2026Viviendo en Madrid, te sientas en la terraza medio vacío para tomarte una caña de cerveza a las 6 de la tarde y te dice el camarero que no, que le dejes la mesa libre solo para comer. Solo les interesa el dinero de los turistas, si eres de la zona ni entres… lamentable.

25/04/2026我是一個人旅行，所以當我向接待的女服務生提出我想吃小份的蒜味蝦時，她引導我到這家店告訴我只有這家有小份的，但當我點餐時，幫我點餐的男服務生卻告訴我沒有小份的，我以為是我誤會了女服務生的意思所以我還是點了一份，直到隔壁有位男生一樣點了蒜味蝦，送來卻是小份的才發現我被騙了，甚至在我離開時也看到他們確實在烹煮小份的蒜味蝦，必須要說餐點味道本身很好我很滿意，但我認為點餐的服務生應該更老實而不是為了賺錢欺騙消費者，希望可以改善這點！

25/04/2026Mal servicio y precios caros. Casi 4€ por una caña sin aperitivo. Pedimos un tercio y una Pepsi zero y nos pusieron una caña y una Pepsi con azúcar. No tenían tercios, pero no lo avisaron. Solo trabajaban San Miguel y Pepsi. No nos trajeron ni unas tristes aceitunas. Se aprovechan de que el 90% de la clientela es turismo de fuera. No volveremos.

24/04/2026Bonjour, Je ne laisse jamais aucun avis négatif, cependant, le chef de rang (avec des lunettes qu’il pose sur sa tête)est tellement insupportable que je me dois d’en informer les prochains potentiels client. Il crit partout pour rien ne respecte aucune personne, écoute à moitié les commande et se fou de la gueule des gens quand on le lui fait remarquer. Malgré une bonne cuisine, je ne recommande absolument pas ce restaurant. Le chef de rang cache absolument tout le plaisir

24/04/2026Un buena experiencia en el centro de Madrid. Atención correcta pero puede mejorar. Por lo menos en el que fuimos nosotros, el que no tiene terraza. En el de la terraza los camareros parecian mas atentos y con más ánimo de atenderte.

20/04/2026Está reseña va para Luis y José el valenciano, la comida está buenísima pero vengo sobre todo por el trato de ellos 2, te hacen sentir como en casa y son bellísimas personas y muy buenos trabajadores juntos con el resto del equipo!!!! Me encanta venir aquí por su trato, es un sitio único y con encanto, aquí vuestra amiga andaluza!!!!

15/04/2026Sitio de toda la vida, estuvimos en la barra tomando unas gambas y unas cervezas el ambiente está bien pero son muy guarros sobretodo la camarera rubia de la barra y el otro camarero, tocan vasos sucios metiendo los dedos dentro del vaso, tocan dinero, platos sucios y luego sin lavarse las manos cogen el pan del cesto con las manos sucias y se lo dan al cliente, deberían lavarse las manos antes de tocar el pan o usar unas pinzas, es verdad que tienen mucho trabajo pero no es justificable que no se laven las manos, lo dicho muy sucios.

14/04/2026Muy buen lugar. La especialidad son las gambas. Probabas las gambas al ajillo y las croquetas de camarón rojo. Muy rico. También nos sirvieron pan sin cobro adicional. La gente que atiende muy amable la verdad.

14/04/2026Las gambas al ajillo están bien (estarían muy bien si no costaran la friolera de 20€ el platillo). El servicio es pésimo. Los camareros gritan, son maleducados y tuve que aguantar comentarios machistas del que nos atendió. No merece la pena lo que comes por el ambiente, el servicio y lo que pagas.
