08/06/2026Besides the fact that this was the place where Julius Caesar was assassinated, this place now is home to a cat sanctuary which features a view of some cats! While you are not able to pet the cats, you can see it from a decent distance away. I was able to see 5 of them, and sometimes, they might walk up to the street. And best of all, it is free! There is a separate ticketed enclosure, but it’s not worth the price.
Claudia Ferrufino
08/06/2026The ruins where Julius ceaser was assassinated was cool, I guess...But I have to be honest, I only came here to see the cats. The sanctuary is located on the opposite corner of the entrance of the ruins and it is free to visit their beautiful cats they are very kind and genuine people.

31/05/2026The Sacra di Largo Argentina (Argentina Area Sacra) is a grand open-air archaeological complex in the heart of Rome, located on the bustling Largo Argentina, midway between the Colosseum and the Vatican. Unlike the Roman Forum, this ancient oasis is located significantly below modern street level, creating a striking spatial contrast. This place is absolutely unique: it combines the most ancient architecture of the Roman Republic, one of the most notorious political assassinations in human history, and... Italy's most charming cat shelter. The complex contains the ruins of four temples built between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC. Since their exact dedication has long been the subject of scholarly debate, archaeologists have designated them by the first letters of the alphabet: Temple A, B, C, and D. Here you can see the perfectly preserved tuff columns, altars, and circular rotunda of Temple B (the Temple of the "Fortune of Today"), which predates the famous Colosseum by several centuries. The main historical thriller of this place is hidden deep in the square, at the foot of the ruins of Temple A. It was here in ancient times that the Curia of Pompey, a temporary meeting house for the Roman Senate, was located. And it was here, on the Ides of March—March 15, 44 BC—that a group of conspirators led by Brutus and Cassius stabbed the great dictator Gaius Julius Caesar 23 times. For a long time, tourists could only view this sacred site from above, from the sidewalks, but recently, special pedestrian walkways were opened right among the ancient stones. In one of the underground sectors of the archaeological zone (on the corner of Via Florida and Via di Torre Argentina) is the world-famous shelter for stray cats (Colonia Felina di Largo Argentina). Cats took up residence in these ruins immediately after excavations in the 1920s. Today, dozens of furry "archaeologists" live here legally and comfortably. They lazily doze on the capitals of ancient columns and look down on passersby, becoming a true living symbol of the square. Be sure to descend the steps to the underground cat shelter (look for the sign on the corner of the square). Volunteers from all over the world care for the animals here. You can leave a small donation or purchase a souvenir (calendar, postcard, bag) – all proceeds go toward feeding and caring for the furry inhabitants of the Caesar ruins.

24/05/2026Lots of history here - site where Julius Caesar was assassinated. But it is also worth to just come and see the cat here

23/05/2026Largo di Torre Argentina is a very interesting place where ancient Roman ruins meet modern city life. The atmosphere is unique, and it’s fascinating to see such historical remains in the middle of the city. Also, the cats living around the ruins make the place even more memorable and charming.

22/05/2026Wonderful square with ancient Roman ruins, place of Julius Ceasar assassination
Claire WithLove
21/05/2026Located in an area with lots of restaurants, it was enjoyable to gaze down at the Roman ruins for free. This is the site where Julius Caesar was assassinated on March 15, 44 BC, inside the Curia of Pompey, which was a meeting hall attached to the Theatre of Pompey. While this famous historical site and ruins is certainly a prime attraction, I found it humorous that more people taking picture of the cats in the cat sanctuary than focused on the ruins. We enjoyed walking around and looking down for them. One was sunning himself on a wall up top. If you are in the area, eat at Come 'Na Vorta restaurant across the street with home made pasta where you can pick and choose the pasta and sauce and if you are lucky, try your hand at rolling pasta.

10/05/2026Great Archaeological site, ancient ruins where Caesar was assassinated, so a very important site for the history of the Roman empire. The site can be seen by the street clearly, but there is an option to view from closer to ground level Via paid entrance. Also very close to the Pantheon. Home to a population of feral cats.

05/05/2026Not one of the biggies in terms of must see attractions, but it is an interesting site with a great story. It is the actual place where Julius Caesar was killed. The Roman senate had temporarily move here when a fire destroyed their regular meeting place. 21 people stabbed Caesar to death so that no one person could be held accountable.

14/10/2023Largo di Torre Argentina is a large open space with the remains of four Roman Republican temples and Theatre and Curia of Pompey. Julius Caesar was assassinated here and a pine tree marks the spot. The area is also home to a cat colony.

20/05/2026Magiczne połączenie historii i natury! Niesamowite miejsce na mapie Rzymu. Z jednej strony monumentalne, starożytne ruiny czterech świątyń i miejsce, w którym według historii zginął Juliusz Cezar, a z drugiej – urocze schronisko dla kotów! Koty wylegujące się na antycznych kolumnach robią niesamowite wrażenie i dodają temu miejscu niepowtarzalnego klimatu. Odkąd otwarto kładki widokowe, można zejść na dół i podziwiać wszystko z bliska.
